Current projects

Projects that have been proposed aim to improve the practice of pharmacy worldwide but increasing the number of academics who are members and therefore have access to newsletters and congress symposia and other projects to improve teaching and learning and therefore increase the standard of education and consequently of well-educated graduates.

The current project “Development of a shared resources website for Pharmacy Academics” was approved in March by BPP for funding.

Aims and objectives of the project:

The aim of this project is to develop a website for FIP academics and others that will provide access to a range of teaching resources that can be shared.
The objectives are to:
1. identify an optimal mechanism for providing a repository from which teaching resources can be accessed
2. develop a set of guidelines for the material to be made available and for the use of material in collaboration with the Global Pharmacy Education Taskforce.
3. identify appropriate teaching and learning materials suitable for inclusion on the site.

Reasons for such a project:

Pharmacy schools often commit a great deal of time and money developing materials to support and enhance teaching and learning. These materials are not generally available to others. Conversely, many schools, particularly those in developing countries, do not have the time or resources to commit to such projects. It would be of great advantage to schools in developing countries to be able to source appropriate teaching and learning aids and have free access to them.  It is obvious, however, that such resources need to be of high quality and regularly updated. There also needs to be an agreement on the part of the user that materials that are freely made available are not modified without permission or sold or otherwise transferred to third parties.

Progress:

Phase 1 of that project is currently underway with the following activities having commenced. FIP technical staff have been contacted to confirm FIP approval for hosting the site following its development. The Pharmacy Education Taskforce (PET) through Prof Ian Bates has indicated its willingness to collaborate on the development of the Resource sharing site and in the identification and the most appropriate format for deposit and retrieval of information resources.
