Clinical Biology Section Annual Report 2009-2010

As of this report, the Executive Committee of the section consisted of 6 members. The executive committee was renewed in September 2008 and is at work since January 2009, until September 2011. It is composed of:
• a President (Bernard Poggi),
• a Vice-President (Alain Mazaleyrat),
• a Treasurer (Joseph Charret),
• a Secretary (Sonia Faria),
• and 3 members (Geneviève Durand, Layachi Chabraoui and François Trivin).

Mission and goals of the section

Main objective of CBS is "to study and maintain the development and the protection of the scientific and professional interests of all Pharmacists engaged in Clinical Biology and Laboratory Medicine" and more precisely:
- Establishing and developing exchange of information intended to benefit the coordination and improvement of the scientific and professional activities of the pharmacists engaged in Clinical Biology and Laboratory Medicine;
- Issuing recommendations / Advising on disease prevention regarding patient, genetic prediction of diseases, biological follow up of diseases and therapeutics;
- Organising meetings and conferences during the FIP congresses;
- Studying and raising awareness on all the problems relating to the purpose of the section, as defined previously.

Accomplishments and activities in 2010-2011


Development and implementation of a Section Strategic Plan, in accordance with BPP and FIP Strategic Plan.

• Increase CBS membership
• Expand the role of pharmacists and cooperation with other health professionals for the benefit of patients.
• Raise professional standards such as approval of ISO guides for the clinical laboratory medicines (ISO 15189 and ISO 22870)
• Promote CPD for all pharmacists in clinical biology
• Increase involvement of the section in FIP activities

Finalizing the program for the Lisbon FIP Congress 2010

• Update of the CBS Poster;
• Development of a leaflet identifying main conferences interesting clinical biologists;
• Preparing the leaflet presenting the CBS and the advantages of becoming member of the CBS;
• Visit of a clinical laboratory medicine in Lisbon ;
• 3 half-days of scientific program for our section is organized (joint symposium with CBS/HPS) and joint symposium with APS)
• Complete program focusing on hot topics section program on hot topics: clinical biology an educational challenge, anti-microbial resistance, using clinical biology data to improve anti-infective utilization at the bedside, visit of a lab, leaflet on CBS activities, leaflet on main conferences ...
• Posters presentations ;
• Organizing the Clinical Biology dinner

 

Finalizing the program for the Hyderabad FIP Congress 2011

• The executive committee has drafted a program on a hot topic: joint symposium with the FIP SIG pharmacogenomics on oncology. Contacts with speakers in order to define the titles of the presentations are currently worked on. Fully accredited program. High profile speakers from various countries and origin will participate.
• Preparation of a complete program with high profile speakers in collaboration with IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) on clinical biology in India.
• A visit of a clinical laboratory medecine will also be organized.

 

Preparing Amsterdam Centennial FIP Congress 2012

• The executive committee has drafted a complete program. Cooperation with the SIG on pharmacogenomics on "How to use diagnostics to direct individualized pharmacotherapy?". The major goal of the program is to strengthen pharmacists understating of diagnostics and biomarkers and prepare them to play a role in a multi-disciplinary patient care.
• The second session will be more political focusing on clinical biology in Europe (as the European Commission plans to revise the directive 2005/36/EC relative to the recognition of diploma).

Communication

4 Newsletters have been sent to all members by E-mail in 2010.
The 1st 2011 Newsletter has to been sent by beginning March 2011.
The newsletters and the report of activities of the Bureau during the year 2009-2010 have been also on the FIP Internet web site (CBS private part) for the one that would like to download it from there.
Newsletters focus on activities of the section (FIP congress, section program, summary of the interventions made, major developments at the CBS, information to members on other congresses in the field of clinical biology and developments around the world) and important Information on accreditation guidance for clinical laboratories all over the world.

The President of FIP CBS participates as part of FIP CBS to the International Committee of the French Biological Society (SFBC).

Collaboration with other sections and external collaboration

Collaboration with other sections:
- joint symposium CBS/HPS in Lisbon (cf. above);
- joint symposium CBS/APS in Lisbon (cf. above)
- Common session with IFCC in the annual FIP Congress since the Vienna FIP Congress in 1999.
- Cooperation with IFCC (For example for recommendations and guidelines to laboratory's accreditation under ISO Guidelines published in JCCLM.

External collaboration:
- Participation to IFCC (International Federation for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) and EFCC group on quality in Clinical Laboratory medicine;
- International Working Group for the definition of the Platform for the recognition of Clinical Biology Exercise in E.U with the European Commission in Brussels...
- EFCC/EC4 working group on Register for European Clinical Biologists;
- IFCC/SFBC/FIPCBS/EC4 working group on creation of a collaborative association for Clinical Biology and Laboratory Medicine in Europe. The EFCC (European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) has been officially created in 2008, as the European part of IFCC.
- With EQALM , organizing Proficiency testing for quality in Clinical Laboratory Medicine
• Implication in patient safety

In collaboration with IFCC Education and Management Division - WG Laboratory errors and Patient safety, the Clinical Biology Section participates to the implementation of Model of Quality Indicators (MQI) for Laboratory errors and Patient Safety (cf. Annexes 1 and 2). This WG is chaired by Pr. M. Plebani from Italy.
