Administrative Pharmacy Section Annual Report 2010-11
The name change of our section to "Social and Administrative Pharmacy Section" was approved as well as the new statutes of the section by the Council in Lisbon. During the elections held in Lisbon president, secretary and treasurer were re-elected and we welcomed 4 new members in the Exco which is now truly international with 2 members from the UK, 2 from the US and one each from Abu Dhabi, Taiwan, Australia, Mexico and Germany.
Successful sessions in Lisbon
The Social and Administrative Pharmacy Section has again run three well attended sessions in Lisbon focussing on the following topics:
1. "Patient packs versus dispensing from bulk - worldwide experience of individualised packing of medicines for patients" (together with the Pharmacy Information Section)
2. "Social, Political & Biological Aspects of Antimicrobial Resistance: An integrated approach" (together with the Clinical Biology Section)
3. "Patient views and expectations - short oral communications"
Section Programme for Hyderabad
Again, the Administrative Pharmacists Section will have three sessions in Hyderabad:
1. "Regulatory legislation changing pharmacy around the world" (together with APS)
2. "Medication Safety and Risk Management"
3. Medication Safety - Perspectives from around the world
Two other sessions where the section is involved are:
- Trends in Community Pharmacy - Debating the future of the profession: Forum for policy makers
- Globalization of pharmaceutical production - Environmental implications and future developments
The section wants to put a focus on two topics for future programme planning which are "Regulatory issues" and Patient Safety in a broad sense.
Section Programme Planning for the Centennial Conference in Amsterdam
The preliminary programme planning for Amsterdam in 2012 has so far resulted in four suggestions
1. "Social Networks as a source of information about the use of medicines" (together with PI Section)
2. "Comparative Effectiveness Research in Pharmacy" (together with SIG Pharmacoepi)
3. "Why don't doctors listen to us? Understanding the basis for interprofessional healthcare"
4. "Professional decision making, changing values and ethical codes"
Section Projects
In 2010 we submitted a project proposal "Social Networks and Social Networking: impact on health care delivery by pharmacists". This topic is in line with the FIP Vision 2020 and the BPP strategic plan and reaches far into the future. We had a project group meeting is Lisbon to try to recruit new members through our newsletter.
Section Newsletter / Publications
With the support of other Exco members Marina Altagracia has issued four Newsletters of the section in March, October and November 2010 and March 2011.
Other activities
Exco officers have revised several drafts of WHO reports. Our Exco members Tim Chen, Albert I Wertheimer and Marina Altagracia Martinez participated and presented in the FAPA-Conference in Taipei, Taiwan in October 2010.
Marina Altagracia Martinez and Albert Wertheimer also presented at the Conference of the Mexcian Pharmaceutical Society In November on behalf of FIP.
